“X-Men: First Class” is a 2011 superhero film directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence. The film serves as a prequel to the original “X-Men” trilogy and explores the early years of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr before they became Professor X and Magneto.

The film is set in the 1960s, during the height of the Cold War, and follows Charles Xavier, a telepathic mutant who is recruited by the CIA to track down other mutants. He teams up with Erik Lensherr, a Holocaust survivor who possesses the power to manipulate metal, to stop Sebastian Shaw, a former Nazi scientist and mutant who plans to start World War III and eradicate humans in the process.

As Charles and Erik assemble a team of young mutants, they struggle with their ideological differences and their respective views on human-mutant relations. Charles believes that mutants should use their powers to help humans and coexist peacefully with them, while Erik believes that mutants are superior to humans and should use their powers to dominate them.

The film received critical acclaim for its performances, direction, and screenplay, and was praised for its thematic depth and exploration of real-world issues such as prejudice and discrimination. It grossed over $350 million worldwide and spawned two sequels, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “X-Men: Apocalypse”.
