The distance to the lonely mountain was getting closer and closer, but the path of the Dwarf Expeditionary Army became extremely difficult and dangerous. They escaped the relentless pursuit of the pale orcs, and split up with Gandalf (Ian McKellen Ian McKellen) in front of the dark jungle. Bitman Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman Martin John C. Freeman) and the dwarves were first attacked by huge spiders, and then were attacked by the elf prince Legolas (Orlando Bloom Orlando Bloom) and his wood elf companions. Bilbo was quick to be wise and used the Lord of the Rings to rescue his partner, which led to a splendid three-way battle between the wood elves, the orcs, and the dwarf expedition. With the help of Bud (Luke Evans), the tired dwarves temporarily settled in Long Lake Town. The Lonely Mountain Castle is close at hand, and the dragon sleeping in the treasure is about to wake up…
The film is based on the original novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien.
“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is a 2013 epic fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson and the second installment in the three-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel “The Hobbit”. The movie follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and a group of dwarves as they continue their quest to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).
The film was praised for its stunning visual effects, thrilling action sequences, and strong performances from its cast, including Ian McKellen as the wizard Gandalf and Richard Armitage as the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield. However, the movie also received criticism for its extended length and the addition of several new characters and storylines that were not present in the original novel.
Despite the mixed reviews, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” was a commercial success, grossing over $960 million worldwide. The film was also nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects.
