There, Todd has been waiting for the arrival of Judge Taping.
“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is a 2007 musical horror film directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as the titular character, a vengeful barber who seeks revenge against those who wronged him and his family.
The story is set in 19th century London and follows Sweeney Todd as he returns to his former barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s (played by Helena Bonham Carter) meat pie shop after being falsely imprisoned. Todd seeks to enact revenge on Judge Turpin (played by Alan Rickman), who sentenced him to prison and took his wife and daughter from him. With the help of Mrs. Lovett, Todd begins to lure his victims into his barber shop where he kills them and Mrs. Lovett uses their flesh to make meat pies.
The film features several musical numbers and was praised for its dark humor, visuals, and performances by Depp and Bonham Carter. The film also stars Sacha Baron Cohen as Signor Adolfo Pirelli, a rival barber, and Timothy Spall as Beadle Bamford, Turpin’s henchman.
The film was a commercial success, grossing over $152 million worldwide. It was also nominated for several awards, including three Academy Awards for Best Actor for Depp, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design. The film’s success led to a Broadway revival of the original musical, which had originally premiered in 1979.
