Men in Black II is a 2002 American science fiction action-comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. The film is the sequel to the 1997 film Men in Black and follows the return of Agent J (Smith) to the Men in Black organization, where he teams up again with Agent K (Jones) to stop an alien criminal from destroying the world.
The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $441 million worldwide. It was praised for its special effects and comedic performances by Smith and Jones, but criticized for its lack of originality compared to the first film.
Despite its mixed reception, Men in Black II remains a popular and influential entry in the science fiction comedy genre, known for its imaginative world-building, clever gadgets, and dynamic chemistry between its two leads. The film also spawned a third installment in the franchise in 2012, as well as a spin-off film, Men in Black: International, in 2019.
