Movie Synopsis
The underworld forces in Massachusetts south of Boston are extremely rampant, the largest gang being the Irish gang run by Frank (Jack Nicholson). In order to exterminate them, the police decided to send police academy graduate Billy (Leonardo DiCaprio Leonardo DiCaprio) to ambush them as undercover. “The Departed” is a 2006 crime thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson. The film is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller “Infernal Affairs” and is set in Boston, Massachusetts.

The story follows two men, Billy Costigan (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and Colin Sullivan (played by Matt Damon), who both work for the Boston police department. Costigan is an undercover cop who has infiltrated the Irish-American organized crime syndicate, while Sullivan is a mole within the police department working for the crime syndicate. As both men try to uncover the other’s identity, they become embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

“The Departed” was a critical and commercial success, winning four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Scorsese, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Editing. The film’s ensemble cast received widespread praise, with Nicholson’s performance as mob boss Frank Costello being particularly singled out for praise.

“The Departed” is often regarded as one of Scorsese’s best films and has been credited with revitalizing the crime thriller genre.
