Movie Synopsis
In 1990, a huge spacecraft appeared above the earth. People were terrified, but curious. After a period of tense waiting, the alien spacecraft remained silent. Humans finally approached it cautiously and forced their way into the cabin, only to find countless aliens. They describe it as ugly, like a shrimp, and in extremely poor health, weak and weak. It turned out that this was a group of refugees from extraterrestrials. They were finally accepted by the people on Earth and lived in isolation in an area of Johannesburg, South Africa, called the “Ninth District”. After 20 years of reproduction, the number of alien refugees has expanded to as many as 1.8 million, and conflicts with surrounding humans continue. More and more humans are calling for the “prawns” to be driven out of the earth.
After consultation, MNU (United Nations Organization) decided to move alien refugees to more remote areas. Special agent Wikus (Sharlto Copley) of the MNU Alien Affairs Department is in charge of the relocation. Wikus was arrogant and casual during the mobilization process, and had frequent conflicts with local residents. In the end, he paid the price for his actions, the alien’s mysterious fluid infected him, and Vikus gradually turned into an alien’s appearance…

“District 9” is a 2009 science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson. The film takes place in an alternate version of Johannesburg, South Africa, where an alien spacecraft has become stranded and the aliens are forced to live in a slum-like area called District 9.

The film follows Wikus van de Merwe (played by Sharlto Copley), a government agent who is tasked with relocating the aliens to a new settlement outside of the city. However, during the operation, Wikus becomes exposed to an alien substance and begins to undergo a transformation that forces him to reevaluate his beliefs and allegiances.

As Wikus struggles to survive and find a cure for his condition, he becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving the government and a powerful weapons manufacturer that seeks to exploit the alien technology.

“District 9” was praised for its originality, social commentary, and Copley’s performance. The film was also notable for its use of documentary-style camerawork and its depiction of a dystopian future that was grounded in real-world issues such as racism, segregation, and corporate greed. The film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and grossed over $210 million worldwide.
