Movie Synopsis
In the middle of the 21st century, due to the greenhouse effect, the Arctic and Antarctic glaciers melted, and many cities on the earth were submerged. At this time, human technology has been highly developed. Artificial intelligence robots are one of the scientific and technological means invented by humans to deal with the harsh natural environment. Moreover, robot manufacturing technology has been highly developed. Advanced robots not only have a real human appearance, but also can Perceive your own existence.
Monica’s son Martin was seriously ill in the hospital, and her life was at stake. In order to relieve her pain, she adopted a robot kid David (played by Haley Joel Osment), whose mission in life is to love her. Martin wakes up, regains his health, and returns home. A series of events make David “fall out of favor” and he is finally abandoned by Monica.
After avoiding the cruel pursuit of the robot slaughterhouse, David, with the help of the robot lover Joe (Jude Law), began to find his own survival value: longing to become a real child and return to his mother Monica side. No one knows whether he can fulfill his wish, reborn as a real person, and what awaits them is an unpredictable journey…
“Artificial Intelligence: AI” is a science fiction film released in 2001, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, and Frances O’Connor. The film is loosely based on the short story “Supertoys Last All Summer Long” by Brian Aldiss.
The story is set in a future where global warming has caused rising sea levels and destroyed many coastal cities. A company creates highly advanced robots, known as “mechas,” to help humanity cope with the environmental crisis. One such mecha, named David, played by Osment, is designed to look and act like a human child and is adopted by a couple whose own son is in a coma.
The film follows David as he tries to become a real boy and win the love of his adoptive mother, while facing challenges from both humans and other mechas. Along the way, David befriends a male escort mecha named Gigolo Joe, played by Law, and they embark on a quest to find the mythical “Blue Fairy” who can turn David into a real boy.
“Artificial Intelligence: AI” received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its visuals and themes, while others found it overly sentimental or too long. The film explores themes of love, identity, and the boundaries between humans and machines, and has become a cult classic in the science fiction genre.
